Bayern Munich have once again returned with a new offer for Callum Hudson-Odoi after their initial attempts to sign the Chelsea winger back in January failed quite badly. The 18-year-old has been subjected to interest from the German giants for some time. However, Hudson-Odoi turned a lot of heads when Bayern made some seriously big offers for his signature back in January.
Bayern made not just one but three offers for the 18-year-old back in January with the highest offer of £35 million not being sufficient to tempt Chelsea into selling one of their prized young assets.
Chelsea were determined to hold on to Hudson-Odoi despite being aware that the player only had 18 months left on the deal. The contract talks between Chelsea and Hudson-Odoi ended in failure, as the blues were unable to convince the player about regular first-team opportunities.
Now, the offer from Bayern Munich has dropped down to just £22.5 million considering that Hudson-Odoi only has 12 months left on his contract. Crucially, Bayern will be able to pen the player down to a pre-contract agreement in January.
Even though Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world, Hudson-Odoi appears to be convinced about better first-team opportunities at the Allianz Arena than at Stamford Bridge. Bayern are going through a vast number of changes this summer following the departure of veterans Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. The duo have been the mainstay when it comes to Bayern’s wingplay for the last decade. Their departure opens up a huge possibility for youngsters to make a name for themselves.
Hudson-Odoi, meanwhile, has started just four league matches for Chelsea. The Blues frequently undergo managerial changes and youngsters have suffered immensely as a result of not being able to secure a regular first-team spot once a change occurs. Maurizio Sarri resisted the temptation to use Hudson-Odoi in the Premier League despite the player’s obvious talent. Now, the departure of the Italian brings yet another new manager into the revolving door at Chelsea. Even though the new manager is likely to be Frank Lampard, Hudson-Odoi is once again having to prove himself to a new manager.
Niko Kovac has been able to keep the Bayern Munich job despite being very close to the sack at several stages last season. The German club, who managed to win the cup and league double last season, are targeting at least four new players in this transfer window. After becoming the top dog in German football once again, Bayern’s objective will be to revive their strength in Europe after a couple of disappointing years in the Champions League.
Even though players like Hudson-Odoi lack experience, he can become just like Jadon Sancho, who is the England youngster to have won rave reviews in Germany.
Hudson-Odoi is currently recovering from an Achilles injury suffered back in April. He is expected to be fit in the first few weeks of September.
Bayern also have their eyes on Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, who could be sold to make way for Neymar.
